Course Description

This self-paced Homestudy course explores the emerging role of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in the treatment and recovery of eating disorders. Participants will review current research, clinical perspectives, and treatment considerations related to anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, and other eating disorder presentations. Course content includes an overview of eating disorder assessment and treatment targets, limitations of current treatment paradigms, neurobiological mechanisms associated with eating disorders, and the growing body of research investigating psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. Participants will examine evidence related to cognitive flexibility, embodiment, self-compassion, brain function, and therapeutic processes that may contribute to recovery. The course also explores preparation, facilitation, and integration considerations when working with clients experiencing eating disorders. Drawing from peer-reviewed literature, clinical guidelines, and emerging psychedelic research, this course is relevant to the professional practice of psychology and related healthcare disciplines. Participants will review current methodologies, research findings, and therapeutic considerations that may inform assessment, treatment planning, and clinical support for individuals affected by eating disorders. Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals, as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients.

Meet your instructor

Heidi J. Dalzell, PsyD Licensed Clinical Psychologist Heidi J. Dalzell, PsyD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, specializing in and trauma, EMDR, eating disorders and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy. She has 30+ years of direct clinical experience. Dr. Dalzell is a graduate of the Integrative Psychiatry Institute, with certifications in Ketamine Assisted Therapy, Psilocybin Assisted therapy and as a MAPs-trained MDMA provider. She provides peer groups and mentoring through Journey Clinical and is excited to be offering courses through Unlimited Sciences. In addition to completing a certificate in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy, Dr. Dalzell is an author and frequent presenter at professional conferences. She has been at the forefront of using psychedelic medicines to support embodiment, body image and recovery from eating disorders. Dr. Dalzell has a busy private practice, offering Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy and preparation and integration of plant medicines. An important part of this work has been her connection to and work with plant medicines. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and experiences in this realm with others.
